Kids at the Studio; Lombok for families

Travel with children can be a nightmare – it can also be a delight! After forty years of travelling with children, I have learned a few things. I have brought up two families, and over these years I have travelled with babies, toddlers, teenagers and young adults. Now I have my grandchildren to enjoy. I have learned that travel with children can be the most wonderful thing – both for you and for them. And Lombok is the perfect place for families and kids.

The Studio is designed for couples, small groups or families. Studio One is well suited to couples, with its secluded location – though it has often been home to small families. Villa Laras and Studio Two are good options for families, close to the pool, trampoline and other recreational facilities.

At the Studio we know what kids’ like. My wife and I founded The Studio ten years ago. We are both teachers and we have two kids of our own. Back then, Villa Laras was our family home – we designed and built it with two lively boys in mind. Now we love nothing more than having families to stay.

Here is what we do for kids at the Studio:

Bedrooms for kids are separate but close to the main bedrooms; babies stay for free, kids up to 12 years can also stay for free if sharing a bed with a parent or sibling.
For infants and toddlers, a baby cot and a car seat are available.
The traditional Indonesian game of congklak is available. Have fun learning something new!
Indoor games include puzzles, card games and dominoes; a basket of blocks will keep you amused.
Curl up in a hammock with a good book: a wide range of kids’ books are available for loan (in English and Indonesian).
The Studios are equipped with a TV and DVD player, we have a selection of DVDs, and guests are welcome to bring their own from home.
Outdoor games include boules, badminton, and table tennis.
Outdoor play/activities include a trampoline, trees for climbing, hide-and-seek, ball games or Frisbee, and space for running.
A 12-metre infinity pool and 1 metre deep kids’ pool with fern garden and overhead waterfall (parental supervision required). Pool games available include a boogie board, pool rackets and dive ribbons.
We can provide simple nutritious kids’ meals on request (either ordered in or made fresh on site). Watch our gardener cut a fresh young coconut from the palm and taste the delicious juice and flesh, or try fresh popcorn made to order in your kitchen!
Want to be pampered? We can arrange baby or child massages and spa treatments.
For the adventurous, family and kids’ activities include local jungle walks and trekking (with advance notice).

A variety of activities for children are available at The Studio Lombok:

For the energetic, we can arrange surf lessons, junior diving lessons (PADI Bubbles or Junior Open Water) and fishing trips (with advance notice)
For the curious; explore the garden and feed the fish.
For the young scientists, try the environmental trail within our natural garden; you and your child can explore a range of habitats right on your doorstep: grab a map and a magnifying glass and find shrimps, fish, tadpoles and water creatures in the creek and pond environments, ants and bugs in the bushes, butterflies and birds in the trees, geckos in the Studio, and often monkeys, toads, tree frogs, flying lizards and monitor lizards in the garden. (Adult supervision required.)
For parents – relax. It’s your holiday too! With advance notice we also provide a child-care and baby-sitting service on site. And we can advise on kid-friendly things to do in Lombok!
